Oil prices continue to soar to record levels. In return, gas prices, coupled with the major housing slowdown, is turning the economy on its head. With national averages now above four dollars per gallon, many motorists are looking for practical ways to increase mileage. To increase mileage, there indeed are several practical and inexpensive tips you can take - as well as some more drastic ones if you dare!
First, having basic knowledge of how your engine works will help understand what changes can be made. An automobile engine takes minute amounts of fuel and air into each piston chamber. This mixture is then pressurized by the piston moving upward. This pressurized mixture explodes through a spark transmitted by the spark plug.
This ignition/explosion of the mixture is the power that is used to transfer motion to through the engine into the components of your vehicle to propel the vehicle forward. This process is repeated thousands of times per minute (think RPM’s). Also, each piston chamber in your car produces this same result over and over - for example, a V-6 engine means there are 6 chambers doing this, and 6 spark plugs to support.
Now, there are several ways to enhance this process, making it more efficient. A great place to start is with your spark plugs. The electricity emitted by spark plugs can be influenced by the quality of the plug itself. A more efficient, higher quality plug will increase the efficiency of this ignition. For example, the seals of the plug may leak additional air, causing some of the electricity power to be lost and as a result, a less efficient explosion occurs. This leads to needing more revolutions to achieve the same power output, and thus uses more gasoline.
Using a high performance spark plug will make your engine operate better. In general, you can expect a 3% increase in mileage by using a high quality spark plug. The rate of return is very quick, as spark plugs cost about the same as one gallon of fuel at today’s prices.

Before you sign the contract and drive away with your rental car, you need to make sure you really know what you have agreed to by signing that agreement. If something were to go wrong while you had the rental car, who would be responsible? How much are you really going to be charged when you return it? What happens if the car gets scratched while you are driving it? You need to consider each of these questions before signing a rental car agreement.
Rental Cars and Insurance
One of the first things you will be asked when you head to the check out counter to pick up your rental car keys is whether or not you want to purchase the rental agency’s insurance policy. Do not say no without thinking first. If something were to happen to your rental car, would you be responsible for the damages? Without insurance, you would.
However, this does not mean that you need the rental car company’s insurance policy. Do you have car insurance on your own vehicle? If so, find out what your current car insurance company covers on rental cars. You may have full coverage on rental cars with your current insurance provider.
Are you paying via credit card? If so, check with your credit card company. Many of them automatically put rental car insurance on the cars that are rented using their cards.
If you do not have insurance with either of these sources, then you need to consider buying it. Also, keep in mind that you will not only pay for the damages to the rental car if you are in an accident. You will also have to pay for the lost time on that car. If it takes three days to fix the car, you will pay for three days of rental on that car, since the rental car company cannot make money during that time frame.
Keep in mind that the damage to a rental car does not have to occur in an accident. If the car is scratched, you could be charged. Be sure to inspect the car thoroughly before driving it off of the rental car lot. Have any damages that you notice noted on your contract.
Hidden Fees and Charges
You may think that you know how much the rental car will cost when all is said and done, but you likely will be surprised when you get your final bill due to additional fees and charges. Of course, you will have to pay taxes on your rental car. Be sure you plan for this when budgeting for a rental car.
You may also be charged for gas. Some rental car companies charge a flat fee for gas and instruct their renters to return the car close to empty. Others will not charge the gas fee if the car is returned full. If you can fill the car up yourself, do so, because the rate the rental car company is going to charge for gas will be more than the gas station down the street.
If a driver on the contract is under 25 years old, expect to pay an additional fee, if the rental car company will even allow this driver to drive the car. Also, adding additional drivers to the agreement will cost extra. Finally, be sure to inquire about late fees, and turn the car in on time unless you absolutely cannot do so.
Renting a car seems like it should be an easy task, but there are many considerations that you need to make before signing the contract. Make sure that you know exactly what you are agreeing to do, and follow through with your end of the contract. This will protect you from unexpected and expensive fees when you return the car.

If you have to carry a lot of tools with you to work every day, or if you like to take part in outdoor activities that require a lot of equipment, then a truck tool box is right for you. You know there isn’t a lot of room in the cab of your truck for lugging gear, so a tool truck rack will give you plenty of room to put your tools, while keeping them safe from the elements. There are many different kinds of truck tool boxes available, so all you have to do is choose the one that meets your needs and your budget.
Types of Truck Tool Boxes:
Top mount tool boxes go in the bed of your truck, right outside the cab. You can find them in many different shapes and sizes and with many different kinds of lids (single, double or multiple compartment). The one you pick hangs on what you plan on carrying in the box. If you plan on carrying small items, you may want to go with multiple compartments. If big tools are what you need to lug around, you should go for a single large compartment.
Another choice is a side mount box, which hangs from the side of your truck bed. Although these are often slightly taller than the bed, the majority of the box sits is confined to the bed. These come in different sizes for different size trucks, so investigate to be sure you get the one that fits yours. Side mounts always open from the top, and most come with a lock that attaches the tool box to your truck so no one can walk away with it. You’ll also want an extra lock on the lid (which holds true for all kind of truck tool boxes).
In terms of popularity, the crossover truck tool box is the winner. These boxes go right behind the cab of your truck and come in many different sizes, designed to fit many different kinds of trucks. Another popular addition to this kind of truck tool box is a truck lumber rack for jobs that entail hauling wood.
Finding the Right Tool Box
To choose the best tool box, look not only for fit but for durability. Look for strong materials, like steel or strong plastic. Homack tool boxes are a popular brand for their ability to stand up against heavy use and the elements while still keeping your tools safe.

Hope you all know about Automobile insurance But do you know the reasons why you should have automobile insurance? The4re are many factors like age, vehicle, driver history and so on that will decide the auto insurance quotes. These all will play a very crucial factor which everyone should consider before looking for the right quote.
The quote on automobile insurance will be dogged on your age. It differs by your age. If you are on above 24 years, then usually the amount of insurance will be cheaper. But your age is below 24 or if you are a teenager, then the insurance amount will slightly be higher. This is only for the reason that the person below 24 will have less experience on the road when compared to the person above 24. The insurance company believes that the experienced driver will be more cautiousness about traffic violations are rarely he will get into an accident.
Another factor that will affect auto insurance quotes is the type of vehicle you are trying to insure. If you purchase a brand new vehicle and it is owned by the bank and you are making payments on it then you will be required to acquire full coverage on the vehicle. Full coverage is the most expensive type of coverage you can get but it will ensure the vehicle is fully covered if it is totaled or stolen. The cheaper the cost of the vehicle then the cheaper the insurance is. If you purchase a vehicle for a couple hundred bucks then you can expect the insurance to be next to nothing.
Other than the age and the type of the vehicle driver history is also very important. If the driver in his past has been into quite a lot of accidents or if he has some records against him then it will be very risky for the insurance company for liability purpose. But at the same time, if the driver has never been into an accident then the amount of insurance will be cheaper. So it is very clear that, the insurance amount payable will be less when the person will cause less damage to the vehicle or to some other person.
Automobile insurance quotes can be found through many companies for free on the Internet. You should never pay for an insurance quote. If a company makes you pay for a quote then you should have a good idea that they will have many other excess charges you shouldn’t be paying for also.
Gender also affects the price of automobile insurance. When compared to men, women are charged less for their insurance premium. This is because, it is believed that women drive such vehicles which are good on gas mileage and which are less possible to break down. Even it is believed that they will be very careful while driving and the level of accidents will be comparatively less.
Cost is the crucial factor when you are looking for auto insurance quotes. Sometimes you may feel that the cost of insurance for the same vehicle is totally dissimilar for two people. But this only for the reasons which are mentioned above factors such as age, driving history, gender, and the type of vehicle you want covered. Keep in mind that nowadays all most all insurance companies are providing free automobile insurance quotes and there is no need to pay unnecessarily for a quote.

Almost anyone who drives knows what roadside assistance is. For those who don’t, it is assistance given to the driver in the case that he or she runs out of gas, blows a tire, breaks down, or is locked out of their car. The service will provide a specified amount of gas that should get the individual to the next gas station, will put on the spare tire if the tire blows, will provide towing for a specified distance if the car breaks down, and will provide locksmith service if the keys are locked in the car. In other words, having roadside assistance means it is difficult to get stranded when away from home.
The above scenarios certainly reveal how important it is that a person has roadside assistance. It is easy for someone to say that they never run out of gas, that they don’t believe their tire will go flat, or they never lock their keys in their car. There are even some individuals so claim that their car is a good car and will never break down. The truth is that these things happen to anyone and everyone. It isn’t a measure of intelligence or how careful an individual is. Everyone who drives has or will experience all of these things at one point and, in a world that is becoming increasingly dangerous, it is important to have roadside assistance that can cover you all through the day and all night long.
Who should have 24/7 roadside assistance
Those who frequently travel are the perfect candidates for around the clock roadside assistance. A roadside assistance service that doesn’t provide coverage 24 hours each day could definitely put an individual in a pickle. For example: A person is traveling after 9:00 p.m. and they have a tire blowout on the highway. They take out their cellular phone to call their roadside assistance service to find that their hours are between 9:00 a.m. ad 9:00 p.m. This person is now stuck and their only choice is to pay someone a lot of money to come put on their spare or start walking. It is dangerous to wait for a good Samaritan to come along the way and volunteer to put on the spare tire. It is also too dangerous to walk. Had this person had a roadside assistance service that was an around the clock service, this would not be a problem.
Then there are those who travel frequently overnight. A service that is not around the clock isn’t going to benefit them at all. Actually, it would be pointless to have. If something happened in the middle of the night, they would have to call someone else who would charge them even more for overnight service or they would have to do something dangerous such as sleep in the car or start walking to find help or a hotel.
So when asking the question of who should have around the clock auto clubroadside assistance, it is fair to say that anyone who is need of roadside assistance should go for a service that will help them any time of the day or night. We cannot predict when we are going to be driving. A person may have to leave their home in the middle of the night and end up locking themselves out of their car. It is easier and cheaper to receive locksmith assistance from the roadside assistance company than it is to call a locksmith in the middle of the night on your own and spend $30 or more dollars. Roadside assistance is more convenient and it is cheaper. There is also no question as to why an around the clock auto club roadside assistance is the way to go.

Auto insurance can be very expensive for some folks. However, is doing without it a viable alternative? We’ll look at a number of angles to this that will help you make a very informed decision.
1. For those who have chosen lifestyles that mean they’ll never drive a car, this might work. However, it does happen sometimes that things happen and you suddenly wish you could drive your own car. Does it really make sense to put yourself in such a situation?
2. If you choose to “call their bluff” and drive without it you can get away with it for some time. But bear in mind that you could land yourself in a serious mess when you get caught.
At best, the penalties for non-compliance with insurance laws are a substantial fine, license and/or registration suspension or revocation. But it can get worse: A jail term.
3. Adequate coverage will help you recover if your car is stolen, totaled or damaged. You’ll be the one to benefit in this situation — NOT the law enforcement agent.
4. What happens if there are liability claims against you? I hope you know that lawyers can go after your investments to get reasonable compensation for their clients. How do you think the judge will treat your case when it’s proven that you’re uninsured?
Need I say more? The few reasons I’ve given so far do show how important an auto insurance policy is. If you’re bothered about high rates, here are ways to cut down costs…
1. Each state has a mandatory minimum. This is your best bet if your car is old (It’s Kelly Blue Book value won’t make paying for collision and comprehensive coverage worthwhile).
If you car is still new, don’t go with this. Get comprehensive and collision coverage. Take a step further even and also get coverage from uninsured motorists. This will do you a world of good. However, drop the liability part to the barest minimum.
But to ensure you don’t have issues with liability claims, get an umbrella policy. Per premium dollar spent, you’ll get far more extensive liability coverage with this policy.
2. While you take every other step to reduce your rate, don’t forget that the surest way to pay less is to do thorough comparison shopping…
All you’ll have to do is fill a simple questionnaire at each site. For this, you’ll get five or more quotes from different A rated insurers. Do this over and over again with different insurers until you find a deal that gives you the right coverage at an affordable rate.

Improve my gas mileage! How many times has that thought made it’s way through your brain. People world wide have been saying it for nearly 100 years now ever since the beginning of the industrial age
Although gas mileage devices have nearly doubled the actual mileage most cars get in the last 75 years, progress on this front has never been slower. Looking back over the last 20 years or so you will see very little improvement.
Enter the Auto X Prize competition sponsored by the Progressive auto insurance company. The contest is now underway to build the first 100 mpg car. The contest officially launched in March but you have plenty of time to still get in the race.
The Auto X Prize will award a $10 million dollar prize to the first person…or group of persons…who can demonstrate that 100mpg achievement during cross-country races.
Up for the challenge? The competition races begin sometime in 2009 so if you think you can somehow “improve my gas mileage” it’s time to quit thinking and get building!
This brings us to the questions as to whether you think you have what it is going to take, what are the exact rules to get into this game and what are the ultimate goals.
Well, of course, the main goals are obvious. We need super energy efficient cars that will not only clean up our environment but also break our dependence on foreign oil. And at the top of the list? Improve my gas mileage!
The car that will win needs to be an easy concept that is simple in design and straight forward to understand not to mention something that you and I can work on. That’s a switch!
It’s benefits need to be globally beneficial and with that in mind it is a global completion. No matter where you are from, your brains and your talent are welcome.
The car that wins must be something we can all buy. If your idea is still a concept car, that won’t work. It must be ready to be produced.
The other rules of engagement include independent and fair non-partisan contestants and must provide clear understanding of the emissions, safety, fuel efficiency, performance and a couple other technical boundaries.
Don’t get hung up on the technicals. If you can build something that you can enter and it is capable of being manufactured then all shade tree mechanics world wide need to get busy!
The implications of such a contest are huge! Not only for the winners of the contest but for the entire world in general.
Imagine for a moment how life could change for all of us and how the far reaching effects into other industries would change life as we know it.
There is a ton of info on this and cars with the best gas mileage if you know where to start looking. Check it out and who knows! Maybe you will be the one to give us all a gas mileage improvement we have all been waiting for!

We are all concerned about the environment and doing our part to take care of it. Of all the purchases we make, the purchase that will have the greatest impact on the environment will be the car we decide to buy. Hybrid cars are an affordable and innovative way to help protect our environment and benefit from the increased fuel mileage.
Only a few years ago talk of hybrid cars had consumers stepping back unsure; but today hybrids offer a practical choice for consumers, and more and more consumers are jumping on board.
So let’s take a look at what a hybrid is exactly. We all know they’re more fuel efficient, but why? Well, the hybrid has an electric motor (powered by a battery pack) that helps provide power needed with acceleration. The batteries are charging continuously while you drive.
Energy is conserved when you stop because the engine is shut off automatically. Then, when you apply gas, it automatically restarts which is a pretty nifty trick because it all happens so seamlessly
Hybrids also help save gas by frequently using tires that are less roll resistant and that are narrower to help reduce drag and rolling friction that the vehicle would normally experience while moving.
In 2004, out of the 17 million vehicles sold there were around 80,000 hybrid vehicles sold. By 2005 that number had increased by 1.2% to 200,000, and now manufacturers can’t keep up with the demand for these vehicles.
Recently, we’ve seen several new entries into the hybrid market. Honda and Toyota make by far the most hybrid models, but all American auto manufacturers now offer many hybrids in their vehicle lineups. Europe has been a little slower, opting for diesel instead.
Right now the top hybrid on the planet would be the Toyota Prius. There are currently over 1,000,000 Prius’ on the road right now.
Every year more and more hybrid models are introduced. 2010 is shaping up to be an especially good year with a slew of plug-in electric hybrid vehicles coming out. Gasoline’s days are numbered.
If we had a crystal ball that could see into the future, there’s a good chance that what we’d see 20 years down the road would be freeways, highways, and streets that were full of hybrid vehicles. In fact, it’s likely that our gas guzzling vehicles of today are about to go the way of the dinosaur as more hybrid cars make it to market.

A lot of persons in applying for a new car it could be brand new or used, seem to faced with the challenge of getting interest rates on their auto loans they are comfortable with. They just settle for rates higher than they thought.
It would seem quite obvious that to get the best deals, one would have to compare between different providers and in each case take time to know what they offer. It is quite easy to get low interest rates on your auto loans. It is actually easier than it might seem.
Getting low interest rates on your auto loans can be said to be as simple the loan application process. Being fully in the know as far as your credit rating is an important factor. It is however sad that many people have no idea of this until they go to apply for a loan. Your credit rating determines directly your interest rate.
Keeping your credit rating good is a sure way of getting low interest rates on your auto loans. As far as loans are concerned, a good credit rating result in a lower interest rate.
To find and compare between rates offered by lenders, you could go the traditional way; from lender to lender and get their rates. On the other hand, you can go online and search for lenders or even better still, you can go to sites that help you compare quotes. They get your rates from different lenders and you make your choice.
Fine prints. Many people have gotten into heartaches because they failed to read the fine prints in their terms. Make it a point of duty to always read everything to make sure no little detail is hidden somewhere only to be brandished at you when you’ve already signed.
Make sure you don’t settle for less than you want. Take your time and get a deal you are happy with.
